The Issue
Despite the United States constantly finding new ways to improve wireless fidelity (more widely known as Wi-Fi), there are still millions of families throughout the country who do not have access or have very poor connections. Unfortunately, a lot of that may have to do with the racial bias that is still present today. According to a study done by Markup, various sectors of cities throughout America have a sort of “digital divide” when it comes to broadband speed. For example, in Kansas City, Missouri, areas with predominantly white families had much faster internet speeds compared to another areas of the city that had a significantly lower Caucasian population (Source). This is especially problematic for students who are trying to stay on top of their academic responsibilities. Poor internet speed and lack of access can prevent someone from graduating because they might not be able to access the resources needed to complete their assignments.
Why We Created the MHS
Our new concept, the Mobile Hotspot (MHS) Program, is the fix for every student with poor connection. It will offer free and effective Wi-Fi, which is a perfect way to accomplish our mission of “Equal Education for All”. It was started in 2023 to ensure every academic hopeful has a chance to learn without any internet-related obstacles. The Mobile Hotspot devices we give out will contain SIM cards that will be registered with every school that supports the program. Once a student obtains their new gadget, all they need to do is plug it into their computer, and everything will be up and running! Furthermore, several government agencies are providing funding for this program (Department of Defense, Homeland Security, and others!). We hope the Mobile Hotspot will bridge America’s “digital divide” and give every student an ample opportunity to complete their educational assignments.
